About Maya: The Story
The story centres on the daughter of a Middle Eastern dictator who now lives in the West. For years she has tried to keep her distance from her father’s influence. But the sudden and suspicious death of her husband exposes hidden ties to her past.
As doubts grow, she is pulled into a world of old loyalties and dangerous revelations that challenge everything she believes about herself and her family.
The Filmmakers Behind About Maya
The film was directed by Iranian-Canadian couple Nasim Naghavi and Amir Ganjavie. It explores the emotional and political turmoil of a woman who must find her own way in a world full of power, betrayal and hidden truths.
Combining political suspense with psychological depth, the film reflects on exile, power and identity, and on the lasting impact of authoritarian rule. These themes speak strongly to diaspora audiences. Read more about political thrillers.
