Dr. Reza Mahdavian led a seminar at Global Link Trade Hub on September 4, 2024 about learning English for success in a new country, and about choosing the right international English exam.
Reza Mahdavian on Why English Matters
For newcomers, English is the key to jobs, education, friendships and confidence in daily life. Understanding why it matters is the first step to learning it with motivation.
Dr. Reza Mahdavian is a trained IELTS mock test examiner with more than 27 years of experience teaching English at different levels. He specialises in IELTS listening, speaking and grammar, as well as Cambridge English exams such as B2 First and C1 Advanced.
Topics
- The value of learning English in a new country
- Key criteria for effective speaking: pronunciation, fluency, grammar and vocabulary
- Choosing between IELTS, CELPIP and PTE Core for immigration needs
Each exam has a different format, and the right choice depends on your goals, timeline and strengths. Official information is available on the IELTS website and on the Government of Canada’s language test pages.
Learning With Reza Mahdavian
The seminar gave practical advice that participants could use right away, from daily speaking habits to test-day strategies, and plenty of time for questions. Many learners feel stuck at an intermediate level for years. Small, consistent habits, like speaking every day, listening to podcasts and recording yourself, can help break through. Participants also learned how exam scores are structured, so they could focus their preparation on the skills that matter most for their target score.
