The first Alef Persian Book Fair took place in Toronto on November 2 and 3, 2024, from 10 AM to 7 PM, at Global Link Trade Hub. It was an exceptional opportunity to present Persian-language works and connect publishers and writers directly with readers.
A Persian Book Fair for Toronto
The fair featured books published in North America, Europe, Iran and Afghanistan. Readers could browse new titles, meet authors and discover independent publishers they may never find in a regular bookstore.
For Persian speakers abroad, finding good books in their own language is not always easy. A fair like this brings hundreds of titles into one room, and it lets parents find books that help their children keep reading in Persian.
Program
- Book launches
- Literary panels
- Art workshops
- Meetings with writers and publishers
Why the Persian Book Fair Matters
Books keep a language alive. When a community reads, discusses and buys books in its own language, it supports writers, translators and publishers who keep that culture growing. Read more about Persian literature on Wikipedia.
The Persian Book Fair was organised by alef.bookfair together with Asemana Books, and hosted at Global Link, 88 Doncaster Ave, Thornhill. Visitors could spend a whole day browsing, attending talks and meeting other readers,, and it was a good chance for families to find Persian storybooks for their children.
Book fairs also give local writers a rare chance to sell their work in person, hear feedback from readers and meet other authors. We hope this first edition is the start of a yearly tradition for book lovers across the Greater Toronto Area.
