Culture of Immigration was the theme of the Mehr Iranian Cultural Association of Toronto’s monthly gathering at Global Link on April 11, 2025, from 6 to 8:30 PM. The Persian title played with words: immigration of culture, and the way culture itself migrates.
Culture of Immigration: What We Carry With Us
When people move to a new country, they bring more than suitcases. They bring language, food, music, humour and ways of seeing the world. Over time, that culture changes, and it also changes the place it arrives in.
In the first part of the evening, Mr. Sasan Ghahreman, a writer, poet, actor and publisher, gave a short talk on immigrant culture and how migration shapes identity, art and daily life. Read more about human migration on Wikipedia.
Culture of Immigration Evening: Program
- Short talk by Sasan Ghahreman
- Tea, coffee and sweets
- Poetry, singing, personal writings and music
A Monthly Home for Persian Culture
The Mehr gathering is held on the second Friday of every month. It is a place to keep Toronto’s Iranian cultural and artistic community connected and in conversation.
Talks on the culture of immigration feel especially personal in this room, because almost everyone in the audience has lived it. People compare experiences, laugh at shared struggles and leave with new ideas about how to keep their roots while growing new ones in Canada.
These evenings are open to artists, writers, musicians and anyone who loves Persian culture. They are also a gentle way for newcomers to find a community that understands both the joy and the difficulty of starting again in a new country.
