The first Persian Stand-Up Comedy competition in Toronto took place on Saturday, October 19, at 7 PM, in person at the Fairview Library Theatre. Global Link was proud to support this new stage for Persian-speaking comedians.
Persian Stand-Up Comedy Comes to Toronto
Stand-up comedy in Persian has grown quickly in recent years, especially online. Comedians talk about immigration, family, language mix-ups and daily life, and audiences recognise themselves in every joke. Bringing that energy to a live stage in Toronto was a natural next step.
A competition format also gives new comedians a reason to write, practise and test their material in front of a real audience. Judges and audiences look for original stories, timing and stage presence, so every performer learns something about their craft, whether they win or not. For a new comedian, performing in front of a live crowd for the first time is a brave and exciting step.

Why Persian Stand-Up Comedy Matters
Humour is one of the ways a community processes change. Laughing together about the hard parts of starting over helps people feel less alone. Learn more about stand-up comedy on Wikipedia.
Live comedy also builds a creative scene. Every open mic and competition helps new performers find their voice and gives audiences a reason to come back.
We hope to see many more nights like this one, where young talent can grow in front of a supportive home crowd.
