Fariba Davoudi Kandorogh led a memorable evening at Global Link Cultural Centre on March 9, 2025, honouring master Hossein Omoumi Ghazi, one of the brightest names in Persian classical singing.
Fariba Davoudi Honours a Master of Persian Song
Persian classical singing, known as avaz, is built on the radif, a large collection of traditional melodies passed from teacher to student. Masters of this art are remembered not only for their voices but for the students they trained. Read more about Persian classical music.
The tribute celebrated that legacy with a special performance and with stories about the master’s influence on generations of singers. It was also a reminder that every generation of singers stands on the shoulders of the teachers before them, and that keeping their names alive is part of keeping the music alive for the children and grandchildren of today’s listeners.
The 16th Fariba Davoudi Singing Workshop
Alongside the tribute, the evening included the 16th singing workshop led by Fariba Davoudi. It was a rare opportunity for lovers of music and song to learn breathing, phrasing and expression directly from an experienced vocal teacher.
These workshops welcome beginners as well as experienced singers. Many participants return again and again, because each session goes deeper into the feeling behind the music. Singing together in a group also builds confidence, because everyone is learning, listening and supporting each other in the same room.
