Kianoush Khalilian, senior student of Master Hassan Nahid, joined Mrs. Fariba Davoudi at Global Link on September 15, 2024 to honour Master Nahid, the legendary Iranian ney player whose melodies became a cornerstone of Persian traditional music.
Kianoush Khalilian Honours His Teacher
The ney is a reed flute with a breathy, spiritual sound that has been part of Persian music for centuries. Master Hassan Nahid is widely known as one of its greatest players. Read more about the ney on Wikipedia.
A tribute from a student carries special meaning. It shows how an art form lives on through the people who learned it hand to hand, lesson by lesson.
A New Ney Instruction Book
The evening also included the unveiling of a new instructional book on ney playing written by Kianoush Khalilian. For learners outside Iran, good teaching materials in Persian are not easy to find, which makes a book like this especially valuable.
An Evening of Iranian Art and Culture
With special guest Fariba Davoudi, the program celebrated Iranian music as a living tradition. It was a chance for musicians, students and music lovers to meet, listen and share memories of the master’s recordings.
