Yalda Night, the longest night of the year, was celebrated at Global Link on December 21, 2024 with an evening full of legends, music and ancient Iranian rituals. The celebration was called Avaye Yalda, the Song of Yalda.
Yalda Night: The Longest Night of the Year
For thousands of years, Iranians have gathered with family on the winter solstice to stay awake through the long dark hours, eat pomegranates and watermelon, and read poetry, especially the Divan of Hafez. The tradition celebrates the return of light, since after this night the days grow longer. Read more about Yalda.

Why We Celebrate Yalda Night Together
For many families in Toronto, relatives are thousands of kilometres away. A shared celebration gives children a chance to experience the rituals their parents grew up with, and gives everyone a reason to gather, laugh and stay up late with friends.
